Role of a Density Probe in Borehole Logging

Role of a Density Probe in Borehole Logging

Borehole logging provides critical information about the earth’s subsurface that guides the work of drillers, miners, engineers, and geoscientists. This short post focuses on the compensated density probe, how it works, and some of the applications for which it is suited.

Product Improvements by Listening to Customers

Product Improvements by Listening to Customers

Mount Sopris is well known for the reliability of its geophysical logging equipment, which are designed to operate worry-free in the most extreme borehole environments. Even so, the company listens carefully to the feedback of its customers, always looking for ways to improve product performance, dependability, and ease of use. Below are a few examples of recent product improvements that directly resulted from customer input.

GeoEXplo Appointed Official Representative for Algeria and Western North Africa

GeoEXplo Appointed Official Representative for Algeria and Western North Africa

Mount Sopris and ALT proudly announce that GeoEXplo has been appointed as their official representative in Algeria and the Maghreb region of North Africa. As Algeria’s leader in near-surface geophysics, GeoEXplo is uniquely qualified to provide expert assistance with equipment specification, commissioning, training, software, data interpretation, and other types of after-sales support. Algeria is a large market for geophysical applications including borehole logging. Groundwater is a scarce resource and quality water well completion is vital in the arid environment.

Field Training for Groundwater Flowmeter Project in Nebraska

Field Training for Groundwater Flowmeter Project in Nebraska

Mount Sopris geologist Taylor Weber and intern Hannah Peterson gave a training in Lodgepole, Nebraska last month in contribution to a groundwater studies project. Working with Geospec Drilling, a leading provider of water investigations in Nebraska, a variety of logs were collected in order to characterize the physical properties of the well and its surrounding hydrogeologic activity.

Don’t Miss the SEG 2017 in Houston Next Week!

Come visit Mount Sopris Instruments and Advanced Logic Technologies (ALT) at next week’s Society of Exploration Geophysicists Annual Meeting and Exposition in Houston, Texas. Jim LoCoco and Lia Martinez will be representing Mount Sopris Instruments, while Rien Corstanje will be representing ALT. Both will be sharing Booth #1311. The SEG International Exposition and 87th Annual Meeting in Houston will provide vast amounts of cutting-edge technical insight, high-level networking, and new business- development opportunities across multiple disciplines of the geosciences sector, including global oil, gas, mineral exploration, near surface, archaeology, and more.

New Product Coming Soon: Neutron Generator Tool!

New Product Coming Soon: Neutron Generator Tool!

Mount Sopris is excited to announce the upcoming release of a new product! We have teamed up with Starfire Industries to develop a neutron probe that eliminates the use of radioactive materials for neutron production. The new QL40-nGEN is scheduled to be available in early 2018 and is especially useful for those who cannot use Am-Be or D-T sources due to licensing issues. With the new QL40-nGEN, radiation can be turned off and on, which increases overall safety and reduces the inconveniences that are associated with the use of radioactive sources. In contrast to a conventional neutron probe, it does not require professional license for handling or costly, secure storage and transportation.

Borehole Conditions for Engineering Projects- AEG Short Course

Borehole Conditions for Engineering Projects- AEG Short Course

Information gleaned from rock cores and testing in the resultant borehole create the fundamental data source for use in analysis and design on many engineering and environmental projects. This course will train participants in collecting data during drilling, describing rock core, in-situ testing in the borehole, and interpreting and presenting information from these sources. The course instructors have wide experience with investigations in rock and include geologists specializing in engineering and environmental geology, a driller, and a geophysicist.

July Wireline Workshop – Wireline Logging Review & NMR

July Wireline Workshop – Wireline Logging Review & NMR

The Wireline Workshop bimonthly bulletin provides valuable information for wireline logging in the mining and mineral exploration industries. The July issue reviewed borehole navigation and verticality, borehole conditions and borehole fluid assessment. It also featured an overview of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) measurement and a guest article covering the principles and applications of Borehole Magnetic Resonance (BMR).
