Mount Sopris Instruments would like to introduce David Huffington. He is a new addition to the Mount Sopris team as a Geophysical Field Service Engineer. David is originally from Canon City, Colorado and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado School of Mines in Geophysical Engineering as of 2014. While attending school, David worked on research drilling rigs in Alaska characterizing heat flow of geothermal springs and was an undergraduate research assistant for a rock physics research group, The Center for Rock Abuse.

From there, David started working for Halliburton Energy Services in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, USA as a Wireline Field Engineer. He specialized in cased hole logging, including production logging, cement evaluation, pipe integrity, mechanical tools, perforating, pulse neutron, and leak detection. David then went to work on mine sites in northern Nevada as a construction engineering technician for tailings facilities. As part of this work, he acquired pore pressure data for slope stability analysis. He was also able to familiarize himself with the mining industry on the production and capital projects side.

David then went back to Colorado School of Mines in August 2017 to earn a Master’s degree in Petroleum Reservoir Systems. While there, he specialized in formation evaluation, reservoir characterization, and petroleum systems analysis working in both conventional and unconventional oil and gas plays. He graduated in December 2018 and has since joined the Mount Sopris team in late January.

David’s specialties in the geosciences include petrophysical acquisition, processing, and interpretation, stratigraphic correlation, production trend mapping, seismic interpretation, and reservoir characterization. He brings years of experience in well logging with oil and gas applications and is excited to branch out to different industries by using similar principles. He will be providing logging and WellCAD support, training, and demos for clients.
